We are animal lighthouse rescue

A non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue of stray dogs in Puerto Rico, called “satos.” Our team of volunteers in New York City works closely with El Faro de los Animales, a no-kill shelter in Humacao, PR. Our mission is to better the quality of life for abandoned satos by transporting them to New York City, finding them temporary homes within our foster network, making sure they are healthy and adjusted, and ultimately placing them into their perfect “furever” home.

Check out our upcoming events!

Throughout the year, we have dozens of adoption events where you can meet our available dogs; we also have a variety of fundraising events (sometimes they include cocktails, comedy, boats and even Broadway stars!)

YEARS AFTER OUR INCREDIBLE ADOPTION EXPERIENCE, WE STILL FEEL STRONGLY BONDED TO THE ALR COMMUNITY. THEIR CONTINUED SUPPORT AND INTEREST IN OUR SCRUFFY WALTER HAS TOUCHED US DEEPLY.

HAPPY TAILS

Our favorite part of the entire process - from rescuing to Happy Tails Day - is the moment when our satos find their furever homes. Some now enjoy hiking trails in Jersey and Connecticut, others go to an Upper West Side brunch with their dads every Sunday, others have made national television appearances with their celebrity-parents. They enjoy furry siblings, human siblings, loving pawrents, big backyards in Pennsylvania, classic New York-sized apartments in Queens and so much more; their furever lives are as diverse as they are! Bottom line: whoever their pawfect match is, we don’t stop until we find it.
