We are hiring Animal Lighthouse Rescue’s next ‘Director of Operations’!

Animal Lighthouse Rescue is looking for a motivated, organized, and dedicated Director of Operations to run the day to day activities of the rescue as an independent contractor. The director of operations (“DO”) role has been developed to facilitate the transportation, foster, and adoption of dogs and cats brought from Puerto Rico and other locations by Animal Lighthouse Rescue. The DO will coordinate every aspect of this process from transportation planning, foster coordination, daily support of animals in our care, and see each pet through to adoption. The DO will also oversee events and promotional initiatives. This position is not remote, applicants must be local to the New York area.


Current Responsibilities

Documentation / Record-keeping

  • Document all ALR activities and flow of information on daily basis

  • Event tracking

  • Board meeting scheduling and note taking

  • Records all details of dogs and cats brought from Puerto Rico and other locations around the US

    • Travel information

    • Medical records and important due dates

    • Tracking where each dog is in the process of adoption

Foster Coordination

  • Screening and recruitment of new foster homes

  • Placement of dogs and cats in foster homes

  • Continued contact with foster parents for photos and updates

  • Rreachable for all foster needs / concerns / emergencies

Fundraising

  • Thank You notes for all donations

  • Event coordination

    • Planning events and auctions

Medical

  • Obtain medical records before transport

  • Coordinate with vet for examinations, tests, or medical treatment as necessary

  • Track vaccination schedules

  • Transfer medical records to new parents

Transportation Process

  • Coordinate transport with the animal shelters for new animals to arrive in NYC

  • Arrange for airport pickup & transfer to foster homes

  • Coordinate transportation volunteers for animal pickups

  • Physical presence to receive dogs

  • Transporting dogs to forever homes and vet appointments around the city as needed

Volunteers

  • Work with the volunteer coordinator to maintain volunteer roster

  • Lead and coordinate volunteers for in-person events

Web-Based Duties

  • Keep ALR website current

  • Petfinder posting of new animals

  • Fulfill online orders of t-shirts and books purchased on the website

Supplies/Inventory

  • Maintain all the inventory of animal supplies and ALR swag (food, toys, medications, etc.)

  • Maintain and upkeep the ALR storage units


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year animal experience. (Rescue, advocacy, veterinary medicine…)

  • Flexible schedule: animal rescue is 365 days a year as well as some weekends, late

    night hours & holidays.

  • Valid driver’s license & daily access to a car (preferred)

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Comfortable handling animals of all temperaments and sizes

  • Knowledge of wellness medical care

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds & stand for long periods of time

This position will begin as an hourly wage based on experience.
