Pregnant pepa’s rescue story:
El Faro de los Animales was bracing for the impact of Hurricane Dorian. Two years earlier, Hurricane Maria had devastated 60% of their shelter; when meteorologists were calling Dorian a “super storm,” the team went into action. Liza, the Director of El Faro, and other employees took the dogs into their own homes. Right when the rain began to fall, and with a van full of dogs, Liza still stopped when she saw a little black dog trotting alongside the road, oblivious to the rain and wind that was picking up. Liza got out of her car and the dog - so pregnant that she was named Pepa the pig because of her round belly - came right up to her. Later that day, Pepa gave birth to 6 puppies in Liza’s home.
Fast forward three months and Pepa was transported to NYC and was immediately adopted by her forever family who had been following her story. Now, she lives a life of luxury on Long Island with her parents and two human brothers. Her six puppies joined us here in NYC three weeks later, and are now all enjoying their “happily furever afters” just as Pepa is.
