For many dogs, our shelter in Humacao is not a shelter, but a sanctuary. Meet a few of our long-term residents, and sponsor them to ensure that they have the freedom to stay in their sanctuary for as long as they would like!

THE SATOS:

PALMAS

Palmas was rescued off the grounds of a resort in Puerto Rico called Palmas Del Mar Humacao. She is an extremely shy girl who needs more patience than the average dog parent would be able to give, but, over the last three years, she has bonded with our team in Puerto Rico. She fits into and enjoys life at the sanctuary - which means she has a good quality of life and we are not in a rush to move her out. Due to her shy nature, placing her in a home may be difficult, so our team is working with her to socialize but will consider her a long-term resident until she is ready. Sponsor Palmas to ensure that she can stay at El Faro for as long as she wants and needs.

TERRY

Terry is the sweetest boy; he is one of those classic cases where he is a dog who is so full of love and joy, but he has a heartbreaking backstory of abuse. When Terry was younger, he was tied to the back of a truck and dragged down the road. He suffered from multiple injuries, including road rash. He has healed from his injuries, but he has bald patches all over his body due to the road rash he sustained. Now, Terry is a healed, happy and older long-term resident at El Faro - we’re happy to report that he is loving life there! Sponsor Terry to ensure that he can stay at El Faro for as long as he wants and needs.

JEt

Jet has been fostered in the greater NYC area for over a year. During this time, it has become clear to us that he isn’t ready for a traditional home - he is distrusting of people and reactive around his neck, likely due to a past unknown trauma. One thing we do know about Jet, however, is that he loved his life at our sanctuary! He enjoyed being with other dogs and wandering the shelter grounds. Despite our best attempts to place him into loving foster homes, Jet has not been happy. He has been letting us know that he wants to go back to El Faro! Not every dog is able to fit into the sort of life we envision for them - some love the independence of life at the sanctuary. As a result, we are working on returning Jet to El Faro where he will become another one of El Faro’s long-term residents. Sponsor Jet to ensure that he can stay at El Faro for as long as he wants and needs.
